Browse through the Family Tree

This is the website for the descendants of Nathaniel Williams Quick (1809-1894) and his wife Susannah (nee Sandow) ) who emigrated to Australia from Cornwall, on board the ship "Euphemus" which departed from Plymouth on 7 April 1853 and landed at Geelong on 18 July 1853. The family settled in the Ballarat area.

Nathaniel and Susannah emigrated to Australia with their children, except for Susan, who was married at the time (to her cousin, James Quick) and who emigrated a year later.  Nathaniel's son (also named Nathaniel) is featured in a book in the Victorian State Library entitled "Victoria and its Metropolis Past and Present", p 253. He was a breeder of Clydesdale horses among other things. He and his wife Sarah (nee Luke) had 13 children of whom 2 died as infants and one at the age of 8 years.  I am a descendant of one of their children.

Nathaniel and Susannah both died in Ballarat; Nathaniel and Sarah both died at Dean (Victoria).

The Quicks all came from St Ives and nearby towns in Cornwall and were mostly farmers, although Nathaniel Snr was listed as a mason in the ship's passenger list; Nathaniel Jnr was listed as an Agricultural Laborer .

While the basis of this website is to show the descendants of Nathaniel & Sarah (I am a descendant of one of their sons, James Daniel) I have also included the family trees of other Quicks, going back to the earliest Quick in our line to have been identified, Thomas Quick.  Because of the sheer size of the tree of all the descendants of Thomas, I have divided it into a number of smaller family trees. If you want to see how you relate to Thomas, you should start with your most recent ancestor and work backwards; each of the trees has names that can be followed into another tree, so it should not be too difficult to follow.

Thumb through the Photo Album

We have a limited range of old family photos, and I am always on the look-out for more. If you have old photos, or if you have information that's missing from the Family Tree, please let me know.
